hoshuv askanim of Avigdor’s Helping Hand,
You know you do wonderful chesed, but may not know just how profound a difference you make. I can share one experience with you.
A woman in our neighborhood lost her husband less than a year ago. He was the sole breadwinner, she was a stay-at-home mother. There was never very much money in the house, but lived simply and got by. With his passing, she was overwhelmed with the process of settling his affairs, and could not contemplate looking for a job. All she was left with was a very modest life insurance policy.
Chasdei Hashem, her son learning in Eretz Yisroel became a chosson to an Anglo-Israeli, and the wedding was scheduled to take place there, at the end of May. How to pay for even a modest wedding was weighing upon her. Being aware of the financial condition, I suggested she apply for assistance to AHH. But she was so wrapped up in worrying about getting ishurim for herself and two single children to be able to fly to Eretz Yisroel (no small thing, as I’m sure you know), that she couldn’t imagine taking on the “project”. In her mind, it would require time, effort and more brain-drain; she didn’t have any of those things in her. However, she was willing to accept my offer to help with the application.
She was so wrong. From my first interaction to learn about the process, until a smiling face hand-delivered a very, very generous check for her, it couldn’t have been easier or more bakovidig. All the questions you asked were with the utmost sensitivity. Because it was hard for her to get invested in the process, the time from application until the chasunah was extremely short. But, yet, you pulled it off.
Two days before the chasunah, I was able to call her in Eretz Yisroel with the gutte besurah that the wonderful people at Avigdor’s Helping Hand had approved her for a significant portion of her wedding costs. Across the ocean, I could *hear* her concerns melting away. And she knew that there were people who really cared; that may have meant as much as the check. I can assure you that she was able to enjoy her son’s chasunah with a full measure of simcha, as every Yiddishe mama has the right to do.
What you do is amazing; how you do it is truly awe-inspiring. I was so uplifted by observing your care and attention for acheinu b’nei Yisroel. May the Ribono Shel Olam bentch all of you with gezundt, parnasah and nachas, and shower you with simcha, just as you are me’sameach others.
With deep appreciation,
Zev Kops
To whom it may concern,
I have received help from Avigdors helping hand in the beginning of my tragedy of losing my dear husband _______. He did not wake up one morning and my entire life was turned upside down and Avigdors helping hand came in and truly saved me with a huge amount of help, my finances were in such shambles. I did not know what on earth I was going to do to take care of my 7,14,15 and 17 year old children at the time. Besides the fact my broken heart was in such pain of finding my husband dead in the morning on his 49th Hebrew and English birthday without any warning he was not a sick man. My happy home went to a broken home and to top it off my two kids went off the derech after he passed away, and two of my children developed serious chronic illnesses that I am now dealing with all alone. Now I am baruch Hashem marrying off my first-born child and Avigdors helping hand has been very generous in helping me with expenses toward my sons wedding. A huge relief for me. I now can without pressure take care of my responsibilities for the wedding thanks to Avigdors helping hand. Being a widow is awful and being a poor widow is even more embarrassing and they kindly genuinely wanted to make this as easy as possible for me. I am so grateful, the people who are affiliated are beyond kind, humble and generous. What chessed and I am so grateful to all of them who have been so gracious and generous and kind to me. I was feeling alone in marrying off my son, and they gave me the feeling of not being alone in this, that someone actually cares for me and my children and understands my pain. I am so thankful for all of the beautiful heartfelt kindness.Al the best to all of you
May Hashem give you all many brachos and hatzlacha and gezunt and continuous parnassah
